Q: Has anyone suffered from the eternal "Please wait" message on the LG BH100 Blu-ray & HD DVD player?
I need to solve this frustating error on the player! I can't play or even open the tray on this device from LG, and LG doesn't seem to help at all.
A: One thing that I would recommend getting is the firmware update. That should resolve some of the issues that you are having with the player. Unfortunately, though, you do have to contact LG for that.
Q: Blu-ray player or PS3?
I want to get a blu-ray disc player, but everyone tells me to get a PS3. I own and love an Xbox 360, so I don't want to game on a PS3. However the PS3 is more affordable and I can surf the web on my TV, but then again why is an LG Blu-ray player (the one I'm looking at) more expensive?
Is the Blu-ray on a PS3 an older version that will soon be obsolete?
A: I would suggest getting a standalone Blu-Ray player. First off, you'll get better performance ( albeit minute ) with a standalone BR player. Second off it's cheaper. Third off, If your buying a BR player so you obviously have the TV capable of HDMI. If you want to browse the web hook up your TV to your Computer. Also, Buying an expensive BR player is a waste. Get a cheaper BR player ( in the $200-$250 range) and it will perform just as good.
But if you are A HUGE gamer get the PS3. Since you already have a superior ( oh snap I said it) console there's no point.
Q: Help! Should I buy a DVD Upscale player or Blu-ray player for my 38"Philips HDTV/LCD 720P?
Hello folks,
I need a movie player for my 38"Philips HDTV/LCD 720P & for Christmas for my family could enjoy it. But, I have a HDTV 720P & should I buy a "LG DVD 720 Upscaler player" or "LG Blu-ray" player? My budget is $500 or less & I've already got a HDMI 1.3a cable. Thank you!
To Rasia W,
I can't read foreign language. Sorry.
A: Get the blu ray player and buy blu ray disks... an upconverting DVD player only plays DVD's... Personally, I'd go for a PS3 to play the blu rays and other digital media. Even though it plays video games, it also does a spectacular job as a media center.
If you are concerned that bluray won't look better than DVD on your 720 display, don't worry - bluray will look fantastic (compared to DVD's "good" picture).
Q: Does anyone know where can I get the firmware update for the LG Super Multi Blu-ray player model BH1000?
A: Go to http://us.lgservice.com & click on Product Support located at the top of the page. Scroll down & click on Device Driver. Select DVD&VIDEO&SET UP & Search. Scroll down & it should be there.
I tried to link to it, but I wasn't able.
Hope this helps.
Q: Which brand is the best for a blu ray player Sony, Pioneer or LG?
A: Sony PS3 hands down.
And I do this for a living.
Q: Are LG Blu-ray players good players?
A: My job is to test HD-DVD and Blu Ray discs on every model player on the market (and some that are not).
I would recommend the PS3 as the best Blu-Ray player, hands down.
And you will see a signifant difference between a DVD in an Upconverting player and one that is encoded for HD-DVD or Blu-Ray even in Sub-40in televisions.
Also, on TVs smaller than 50in 1080p is not required because of the viewing distance and your eyes' ability to resolve detail at that distance. You'd have to sit within 4 1/2 feet to see a difference between 720p and 1080p at those sizes.
Hope this helps.
Q: Help! Display problem with LG HDTV and SONY BDP-S350 Blu-Ray Player!?
I have a LG 47" 1080p HDTV and a recently purchased Sony BDP-S350 Blu-Ray player (firmware still requires an update). I use a HDMI cable to connect the player and the TV. The problem that I encountered is that when I go to the player's Easy Setup menu and set the output resolution to 1080p, the TV screen gets snowflake-like, faint but distracting noise. When I set it to 1080i however, the screen is clear and fine. What could be the cause of this? Thanks in advance for help and suggestion!
A: Check your TV manual. I suspect that the maximum resolution for the TV is 1080i and NOT 1080p. If that's the options. Go for 720p, it would probably look better since it's progressive not interlaced.
Q: how much does it cost the producer to create one blu-ray player unit?
how much does it cost the producer to create one blu-ray player unit? I know that there are different kinds of blu-ray players, such as the one by LG that plays hd-dvd and blu-ray. a solid price (not average) would be really appreciated.
A: it probably costs in the $600 dollar range to make one and they are selling them for around $800 currently with a $599 player to market this summer. prices are going to drop fast though as they get cheaper and cheaper to make. i would expect to see a 399 before xmas.
Q: What is the best Blu-Ray player right now?
i dont care about the dual lg one, just plain blu ray, which is the best?
A: Be forewarned that there continues to be reports* of problems with some of the much ballyhooed premium features often used to market the latest crop of high-definition disc players, including Blu-ray units. Regardless of what anyone recommends you need to carefully and thoroughly evaluate prospective high-definition disc players prior to purchase, particularly with all applicable A/V equipment that you are (or plan on) using, in an effort to minimize the risk of problems. (Keep in mind that some problems as well as missing features may be resolved through firmware upgrades.)
Because it is still relatively early in the game I recommend not investing too much money into a new high performance, high-definition disc player. For the time being, when shopping for a new high-definition disc player, I recommend models with an average street (or selling) price of no more than approximately $1000.
The leading contenders in the Blu-ray disc player camp are all new models - the Pioneer Elite BDP-95FD, Sony BDP-S2000ES and the Samsung BD-P2400. (The Samsung BD-P2400 Blu-ray Player may be one of the better values when it comes to full-featured, high-performance Blu-ray disc players.)

*Onkyo TX-SR875 Surround Sound Receiver Review
http://ultimateavmag.com/avreceivers/907onk875/
“In addition to the usual multichannel Dolby Digital and DTS modes, the Onkyo provides decoding for those high resolution, lossless audio modes mentioned earlier if it receives them in raw bitstream mode. But none of the HD DVD or Blu-ray players available to me are apparently capable of sending Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio bitstreams to this AVR. We are still investigating why this is so at press time, but there is no indication that the reason for this failure originates in the receiver. Stay tuned.”

A somewhat minor quibble with respect to Sony’s PlayStation3 is that it has some problems upscaling (though the latest update may have addressed the problem.) Nevertheless, to get the best up- or down-scaling performance, as well as the best performance in other picture quality areas, you must rely upon an alternate video processor. Unfortunately most video processors found in today’s HDTVs and HD monitors fail to match the performance of the better video processors from Gennum, Silicon Optix, and Genesis Microchip’s Faroudja brand often found in the better high-definition disc players (such as those mentioned above,) AVRs, ‘pre-pros’ and outboard video processing units.
While a PS3 can provide an excellent HD picture it lacks the overall convenience and performance of the best set-top high-definition disc players.

Q: Blu-Ray Player/HDMI Question.?
Ok, so I am the last person on earth to finally get a Blu-Ray player and I am watching a DVD on it (Sweeney Todd) and after all of these years with the "letterbox" bars that I have become used to, I now have the movie filling up the screen.
I know this doesn't sound like a problem, but I am so used to those bars that I feel like the movie is on "zoom" mode, which it is not and I feel like things are stretched out...although I don't think they are.
I can change the aspect ratio on the player to give me 4:3 Letterbox and I have been going back and forth to see if anything looks different and I can't tell.
My TV is not in Zoom mode, and my Blu-Ray player is currently set to 16:9 ( I can not change it because it knows it is hooked up via HDMI cable) and the only way to change it to 4:3 is to tell the player that the input is 480p.
Ok...I guess here is my question.
Is the movie SUPPOSED to fill the entire screen for a DVD or Blu-Ray disc? I love that it does, but after all of these years of the black bars my mind thinks it is on zoom and it seems too clear...if that makes any sense.
How is it supposed to look?
Equipment:
LG BD-300 Blu Ray player
Visio VX 42L 42"
I don't even know what the hell my question is anymore...I actually miss the damn black lines...
A: Relax. Your TV has a 16:9 (1.78:1) aspect ratio. So does the movie (See link), so it should fill the screen.
I'm sure you will get your comfortable black bars back when you play a movie with an AR > 1.78:1.
Q: How can I hook up my blu-ray player to ethernet?
I bought an LG "BD-Live" Blu-Ray player and I can hook it up to my internet for streaming Netflix and updates.
My modem and router is upstairs and I don't want to buy an ethernet adapter, so here is my question.
Can I simply buy a cable splitter and run one cable to my DVR box, and the other to my modem? Will this slow down my connection?
If anybody has done this with anything similar (Blu-Ray, X-Box, PS3..etc) can it be done this way, and does it affect performance (Internet speed?)
Thanks a lot
Edit: What I want to do is bring my modem and router downstairs, then run the ethernet cable from the router to the Blu-Ray player.
A: Edit: What I want to do is bring my modem and router downstairs, then run the ethernet cable from the router to the Blu-Ray player.
Yes, that will work just fine.
Q: Can any bd live enabled blu ray player work with netflix?
I know there is a LG model and Samsung that do, but I don't know if they're the only ones, or any player with bd live can.
A: At this point, yes. It's only LG and Sammy that have this relationship with LG.
Q: hey I have an LG L227WTG 22" LCD monitor and I'm wondering if I can hook up a blu ray player to it. ?
here are some input specs:
Expansion / Connectivity
Interfaces 1 x VGA - 15 pin HD D-Sub (HD-15)
1 x DVI-D - 24 pin digital DVI
It has a
Vertical Refresh Rate: 56~75Hz
is that compatible with most blu ray players?
A: Yes, the LG L227WTG monitor is HDCP-compliant, so it will be able to play back Blu-Ray DVDs at resolutions above 720p.
You will need a DVI-to-HDMI cable to hook up a Blu-Ray DVD player to that monitor though, and you will also need to hook up a separate set of speakers to the Blu-Ray player to get sound, since the monitor has no speakers.
Keep in mind that while the monitor can play back Blu-Ray discs at broadcast-quality 720p High-Definition, it will not be able to play the discs at full pixel-for-pixel 1080p High Definition, because that requires a monitor capable of displaying 1920x1080 resolution. (that LG can only do 1680x1050).
Q: Can the LG player in this link "http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1682713613" write blu ray?
This player costs $300 dollars and plays both blu ray and hd dvd formats. If it also writes blu ray, at what speed? Is it any good?
This link "http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=Suggested&Description=27-136"
A: If I read their poop sheet correctly, and I'm pretty sure I did, it only "burns" DVD. Not HD-DVD or Bluray.
LG equipment is okay I guess. It's a good price for something that will play both HD formats. Stand alones are twice that much.
Q: What brand of Blu ray player is the best on the market right now for under $300.?
I have a 42" LG HD LCD TV and a Panasonic Surround sound.
